APPENDIX B - MLD card jumper
settings
To prepare the MLD hardware card for installation on the user’s PC computer system,
a memory address not already in use on the PC must be selected for the card. This
address is selected by moving the dip switches on the MLD card. The dip switches can
be located at the end of the card, on the side farthest away from the bracket that
attaches the card to the chassis of the computer.
Side note: it is very rare that this memory configuration needs to be done. Normally the default
address is fine.
The options are as follows:
Switches
ON
Address Comments Line needed in the config.sys file to reserve
memory for the card:
1 IRQ 2 Not used,
should be
OFF
2 IRQ 5 Not used,
should be
OFF
3, 6 C800h DEVICE C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=C800-CBFF
3, 4, 6 CC00h DEVICE C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=CC00-CFFF
3, 5 D000h Default DEVICE C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=D000-D3FF
3, 4, 5 D400h DEVICE C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=D400-D7FF
3, 5, 6 D800h DEVICE C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=D800-DBFF
3, 4, 5, 6 DC00h DEVICE C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE X=DC00-DFFF
If the MLD software installer is run after the MLD card is inserted in the PC, it can
automatically detect its memory address and modify the config.sys file to reserve the
memory accordingly.
If the software is installed before installing the MLD card, make sure the installer’s
option to modify the config.sys file is disabled. Once you install the card at a later date,
you may run the installer so that it can detect the card and make the necessary changes
to the config.sys file.
If you are installing the software manually, please consult the table above to ensure that
the correct line is present in the config.sys file to reserve memory for the MLD card.
